In this sermon on Baptism Sunday, we hear that the Bible tells us that once we were dead in sin but in his grace and kindness, God reached out to us by sending his son Jesus to save us and bring us to life. Baptism enacts this amazing transformation in a believer's life when they move from death to life, simply because of their faith in what God has done. It is God's free gift to each of us who believes.

A topical message on the two ordinances of baptism and communion. We are reminded of the importance of these ordinary means of grace in church life and how they go hand-in-hand - you can't have one without the other! Let's make sure we are following Jesus' commands around these two special symbols that he has given us as we proclaim his death and resurrection to our hearts and to a watching world.

In Jesus' letter to the Church in Pergamum, we are encouraged to persevere in the truth and challenged to preserve the truth. The danger of false teaching reminds us that a pic n' mix Christianity is no good - Jesus must be Lord of all or not at all. We must be people of truth AND passion as we stand for Jesus in a hostile world and look forward to his promise of eternal life.

In the letter to the church in Smyrna, we hear how Jesus knows the challenges we go through in this life, whether that's persecution, poverty or other hardships. But he is faithful and if we are faithful to him, he will give us the crown of life and turn our poverty into riches!

Jesus gives the church at Ephesus and us a word of encouragement followed by a word of challenge. We are reminded to keep going because gospel work is hard, to grow in discernment as we prioritise our daily reading of the Bible and to stay faithful to our first love, Jesus Christ our Lord.

On this Easter Sunday morning, we go to the tomb and see the victory of God. Are you looking for the real Jesus? Not the religious, moral or good teacher version of Jesus, but our risen Lord and Saviour. Jesus has paved the way for our future resurrection because all who trust in what he has done will be raised to new eternal life. If we are trusting in Jesus' sacrifice for us, let's be like those women, trembling with fear but going into the world to tell others of the only one who can save and bring life.

On the cross, we see God's love displayed as God's plan to save the world is fulfilled. In this Good Friday service, we are amazed afresh as we wonder at the depth of God's love for us. The work is finished, the debt is paid and the victory over sin and death is won at the cross on that first Good Friday. Do you see the salvation plan fulfilled and the work complete or are you still striving for God's acceptance? It is finished.

In the crucifixion, we see the mercy of God. As we reflect on the events leading up to Jesus' death on the cross, we are challenged to see God's hand at work. Like many in Jesus' day, do we see just a crucified, weak man, or do we see the Saviour of the world, given for us by a merciful God?

What, Where and When

We meet every Sunday at 10.30am to worship God, speak to Him in prayer and hear from His Word together. Expect a warm welcome from our Welcome Team who will answer any questions you may have and help you find a seat. Our Sunday Services typically last 90 minutes and include a mix of modern and traditional songs led by a small contemporary worship group, times of prayer, the Bible reading and the main event: the Bible talk (sermon). For more information on what to expect on a Sunday, check out our dedicated Sundays page here. We meet at the church building and you can find full details of our address here. You are most welcome to join us and we hope to see you on a Sunday morning soon!

What about my children?

At GBC, we believe that as church family, it is good to meet together to worship the Lord as one body and for all ages to be welcomed and transformed by the preached Word of God (Romans 10:17). For this reason, our services are all-in and include Bible Bites, action songs and fun and accessible sermon packs to help each age and stage engage with and be nurtured by the main Bible teaching. For more information on how this works in practice, check out our dedicated Sundays for Families page here.
